This urban legend is perhaps a little more outlandish than most. It is believed that a woman a week or so before her wedding day is trying on her dress and notices she is a little pale. Since this is her wedding day and she is marrying the love of her life she wants to look her best. Upon calling a tanning salon she quickly learns that she can only get 1 30 minute tanning session ever other day at the most. To her this will simply not due. She quickly comes up with the idea to have many sessions per day from different tanning salons and as each day passes getting closer to her wedding day she starts to look more and more radiant. On her wedding day she looks beautiful with a lovely tan and not the least bit pale. Although there is an unforeseen horror waiting for her at the alter. Shortly before she puts on her wedding dress she starts to get an upset stomach but plays it off as a case of wedding jitters. Her horribly bad breathe however she can't play off as easily, but one of her bridesmaids is there to save the day by handing her a tic tac. When the ravishing bride gets her dress on she certain does look stunning with her new found tan and can't be happier about her looks. As she gets to the alter and the ceremony gets underway she soon begins to feel faint and starts to swoon and soon looses consciousness and collapses in a heap. Everyone rushes to her aid and they quickly discover that she didn't just faint but she has died. The horrible breath smell comes back and everyone notices. It turns out the smell is of rancid meat the brides intestines were cooked from the inside out. Could this urban legend possibly be true? Well that is for you to decide perhaps it will make you think twice before you jump in the tanning bed again.

Honestly, that sounds like a hoax. Assuming an average body fat percentage, the body fat should insulate your body from any such damage. If you were, however, super-model-thin I imagine you could do damage to more than just your skin.

Disturbing thought.. but if low and slow is the best method for cooking meat... if this does turn out to be true you'll be able to find out who is a true hardcore BBQ enthusiast.

I believe that it definitely could do damage to your body however I don’t think that spending too much time in a tanning bed could cook your internal organs as the urban legend portrays. It is almost like lying in the sun for certain amount of time it will eventually cause damage. Cancer, heat stroke, burns and other damage to your skin are definitely not afar stretch in my mind. Part of what this urban legend is saying is that the tanning bed becomes a lot like a microwave and to me that is outlandish.

Nope don't believe it at all. Tanning beds do surface damage (skin) not internal organs. Tanning beds just mimick the sun's rays..so it is little different than laying out in the sun for hours and hours. Do you 'cook' while outside in the sun? No..end of story.

Let's look at how meat cooks on your stove top. You don't, in fact, cook the meat from the inside out. It starts with, as you put it, surface damage which, admittedly, travels quickly into the meat because of the temperature. However, being given enough time to sit under the stun, you would more than likely end up cooking past the surface of your skin. The problem is that until recently(I don't care much for tanning booth technology so I couldn't say exactly when) there was no where on earth that the sun beams constantly enough(also with a suitable temperature as to not halt the cooking process) in order for any conclusive tests to have taken place in order to see the true destructive power of the sun. Therefore a constant stream of rays equivalent to that of the Sun(tanning booths) combined with minimal fat deposits could possibly thoroughly cook the human body.

On the other hand, the test seems pretty obvious and simple. Take some meat, throw it on the tanning booth and see if it cooks. No real need for this "Urban Legend" to stay Legend anymore. lol

It might be a hoax because that could not be true for the percentage of the body. The skin has a good way to tolerate the rays. It is good for the body unless it is abused by you.
